Visual Identity

2026 - ongoing
Building a coherent visual identity for the launch of a new free streaming platform for short films under the name “Plankton”. The Burgas International Film Festival’s initiative was to put a focus on curated programs of films, each represented in a time period of one week. The platform's focus is on titles that rarely reach traditional movie theaters due to the limitations of the distribution system and the nature of the format. Additionally, Bulgarian film critics were to write essays about the films, and selected interviews were planned.
The vision was clear: to create a versatile, visually captivating design with the sea in mind. First, tasked with the logotype, I intended to capture the essence of a plankton - an organism known for its unstructured, organic form and fluid nature, emitting a quiet glow that feels alive. These qualities became central to the rest of the identity, where the subtle luminosity, soft gradients, and silhouettes were carried through into the digital communication. The motion language draws from the language of short-form films, reinforcing their temporal, fleeting nature. Using limited frames and moving cut-out silhouettes, the animation relies on symbolic gesture rather than narrative. The minimalist approach emphasizes content hierarchy while supporting a fast and effective launch of the platform.
