The second edition of the international exhibition Sofia Art Projects is dedicated to the theme "Ruins and Empires", which is inspired by the Largo as a place of memory for Sofia and its many thousands of years of history through the eras of different empires - Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and in the 20th century - between state socialism and post-communist capitalism. The exhibition addresses themes such as historical artefacts and their value today, the role of museums, the resistance between public and private space, and the legacy of colonialism, among others.

This specific artwork represents nostalgia, both in its material choices and its visual language. Instead of stone, the mosaic is made of linoleum, a material strongly associated with kindergarten environments and the standardized interiors of the socialist era, to evoke a tactile memory of early childhood. Alongside this, I reference the early 2000s children’s TV show “Кой е по-по-най?” (Who is the best of the best?), a program that was widely recognizable and formative for my generation. Its playful competitiveness, bright aesthetics, and simple yet memorable structure contributed to a shared cultural experience among children growing up at the time.

By combining these references, I aim to reconstruct not just personal memory, but a broader, collective sense of childhood shaped by both physical environments and media consumption. The work reimagines the heritage a childhood leaves behind, and how pop culture, often dismissed as ephemeral, can persist as a powerful, lasting cultural imprint.
